1Although the Alaskan Barleywine employs the distinctive American hop varieties characteristic of American-style barleywines the hopping rate is relatively subdued which makes it more malt balanced which is characteristic of English-style barleywines. Alaskan Brewing's Barleywine is, thus, best described as a hybrid of the two styles of barleywine.

2A robust porter in which a portion of the grain bill has been smoked over an alder-wood fire.

3An Old Ale which has been flavored by the addition of spruce tips (new growth) from Sitka Spruce trees. Maritime explorers such as Captain Cook brewed beers with spruce tips as a means of introducing vitamin C into their diets thereby helping to prevent scurvy.

Alaskan Brewing and Bottling Company also produces a number of "rough drafts" as part of their research and development program. These "experiments" are brewed in very small batches. The experimental batches are kegged only and have a very limited distribution in the Juneau area.
